Purpose of grease.
The main purpose of greases is to reduce wear on friction surfaces and extend the service life of machine parts and mechanisms. Along with this, lubricants perform other functions. In some cases, they do not so much reduce wear, but rather order it, preventing bullying, jamming and jamming of the friction surfaces. Greaseprevent the penetration of aggressive liquids, gases and vapors, as well as abrasive particles (dust, dirt, etc.) to the friction surfaces.Almost all grease perform protective functions, preventing corrosion of metal surfaces. Thanks to anti-friction properties, grease significantly reduce the energy "costs" of friction, which reduces the power loss of machines and mechanisms. To protect metal products, machinery and equipment from corrosion during their transportation and long-term storage, special preservation grease are used. They also produce working and preservation lubricants, they are not replaced before the start of operation of the equipment
To seal gaps in mechanisms and equipment, as well as connections of pipelines and shut-off valves, sealing lubricants are used. They have better sealing properties than oils. Sometimes lubricants have special requirements, for example, they must increase the coefficient of friction, perform the role of insulating or conductive materials, ensure the operation of friction units in radiation, high vacuum, etc. These grease are classified as special purpose grease.
The main conditions and objects of application of grease: open and unpressurized friction units; hard-to-reach friction points; mechanisms located at a variable angle to the horizon; -. friction points where frequent replacement of the lubricant is impossible; variable speed mode of operation of machines; forced contact of a friction unit or protected surface with water or aggressive media; conditions of sharply changing temperature conditions; sealing of movable seals, gaskets and threaded connections; long-term preservation of machinery, equipment, appliances and metal products; the need to simplify the design, reduce the weight and size of the lubricated devices.
Grease are divided by their composition:
1. Soap grease (Calcium,lithium,barium,sodium, aluminum )
2. Inorganic grease (silica gel,bentonite,graphite, asbestos)
3. Ornanic grease (polymer,pigment,polyurea, soot)
4. Hydrocarbon grease (based on ceresine, paraffin, petrolatum, waxes)
By application area: According to GOST23258-78 lubricants are divided into: -antifriction (General purpose ,for high temperatures, multi-purpose, heat-resistant, low-temperature, chemical resistant ,instrument, gear, instrument paste, for electric machines ,automobile ,railway ,aviation , industrial, electric contact)
-conservation;
-seal;
-cable.
